What are research peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Research peptides are versions studied in laboratory settings — they're tools used in vitro to investigate biological pathways, receptor interactions, and assay development.

They are not finished pharmaceutical products, supplements, or consumer goods. They are raw research materials, sold and shipped for laboratory work.

What "Research Use Only" means

Research Use Only (RUO) means the material is intended for in-vitro and laboratory research. It is not for human or veterinary use, food, drug, cosmetic, or therapeutic purposes.

How to read a Certificate of Analysis (COA)

Every order from RHL ships with the COA specific to that batch. Four things to look for:

  • Batch / Lot ID — links the COA to your exact material.
  • Purity % from HPLC — how clean the material is.
  • Identity from mass spectrometry — confirms the molecule matches the label.
  • Testing lab name — an independent third party staking its reputation on the result.

Why third-party testing matters

HPLC tells you how pure. Mass spec tells you what it is. Either one alone is incomplete — you want both, from a lab that has no incentive to lie about either number.

A seller who can name the lab and show you the chromatogram is a seller who can be held to their claims. A seller who can't is asking for trust without evidence.

Reconstitution & storage (lab handling)

Most research peptides ship lyophilized (freeze-dried). In that form they are typically stored cold and away from light per the handling notes on the COA.

Reconstitution dissolves the lyophilized solid in a diluent — commonly bacteriostatic water for research workflows. Concentration depends entirely on how much diluent is added to a known mass of peptide. Reconstituted material has a much shorter stable window than the dry powder.

Glossary

Lyophilized
Freeze-dried into a stable solid powder. The default form most research peptides ship in.
Reconstitution
Dissolving a lyophilized solid into a diluent (e.g. bacteriostatic water) for lab use.
Bac water
Bacteriostatic water — sterile water with a small amount of benzyl alcohol used as a research-grade diluent.
HPLC
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. Standard method for measuring purity %.
Mass spec (MS)
Mass spectrometry. Confirms molecular identity by measuring mass-to-charge ratio.
COA
Certificate of Analysis. A per-lot document listing identity, purity, and the testing lab.
Batch / Lot
A specific production run. COAs are tied to one batch — different batches have different COAs.
